Drill bits are those tools that are attached to drills and are used to bore holes through different objects that include wood, glass, metals, tile and other hard and soft articles, but before one uses drill bits, they should also select the appropriate size to drill precise holes. Metric drill bit sizes define the width or the diameter of the bits in metric length standards. Standard organizations define the most common sets of sizes that are produced and available commonly. British standard BS 328 defines sizes ranging from 0.2mm to 25 mm. These are again subdivided, then defined in smaller lots like from 0.2mm to 1mm and 1mm to 3mm etc. Fractional gauge bit sizes use inch as their parameter and are in the increment of 1/64”. Some of the fraction sizes are 3/4”, 1/8”, 1/4“, 1/ 2” and many others up to 1” in diameter and 4” to 5” in length. Proper understanding of bit size is necessary to facilitate smooth and accurate drilling. While the metric parameter is not widely popular, inch based size is highly accepted and followed.

Drill bits come in various sizes from smallest to largest. Small drill bits are used to bore holes which are relatively less deep and wider than those of large drill bits. They come in sizes that comprise of 1/32”, 1/64”, 1/4“, 1/8“ and 1/2“ with the increments of 1/64”. These small bits not only are efficient in drilling small and round holes but also are an efficient conductor of temperature fluctuations while drilling. They can bore effective and round holes and thus can be used for all minor works in construction and other varied fields.

Drill bit sizes are to be understood well before beginning any work because the varied sized drill bits will bore holes varying in sizes. Long drill bits help ease the construction work by boring high impact, wide and deep holes. They are meant for boring deep in to metal, wood or whichever body one is drilling on. The sizes comprise of 1/2“, 1”, 1 1/8”, 1 7/8”, 2” and 2 1/2”. These are used to drill long and deep holes in to the subject. These are otherwise longer than small bits. Drill bit sizes are thus a prominent and important factor to determine the level of satisfaction and bore appropriate deeper holes.
